Free vs PRO: What $4.99 Actually Buys

Stronkr pricing page showing the free column beside PRO at $4.99 a month
On this page

Most Stronkr pricing questions come down to one thing: is the free tier a real product or a demo with a countdown. The answer is that the engine, the part that reads your RPE and decides the load for your next session, is free, permanently, and PRO is depth stacked on top of it.

That is an unusual way to split a product, so this post lays out both columns line by line, does the annual-versus-monthly arithmetic, and flags the one item on the PRO list that is not shipped yet. If you only read one sentence: PRO adds depth, not oxygen. Nothing on the paid side is required for the app to do its job.

Key takeaways

  • Free includes the progression engine, the routine generator, unlimited routines, 90-day history, volume and PR tracking, and offline use, at $0 with no credit card.
  • PRO is $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year and adds full history, personalized deloads, multiple routines, advanced analytics, and first access to the AI coach.
  • The AI coach is marked coming on the pricing page. It is not shipped. PRO buys first access to it, not the feature.
  • Annual works out at $39.99 against $59.88 for twelve monthly payments, a $19.89 difference, and no other benefit is claimed for it.

What This Looks Like in Stronkr

Stronkr pricing page comparing the free column with PRO at $4.99 a month

The pricing page is two columns. Read it in this order.

  1. Start with the Free column. Unlimited routines. Routine generator. RPE auto-progression. 90-day history. Volume and PR tracking. Offline. Priced at $0, no credit card required to start.
  2. Find auto-progression in that list. This is the load-check. If the engine were in the other column, the free tier would be a logger and the positioning would be a lie.
  3. Read the PRO column. $4.99 per month, or $39.99 per year. Full history. Personalized deloads. Multiple routines. Advanced analytics. First access to the AI coach.
  4. Note what carries a coming label. The AI coach does. That label is doing real work and it is not decorative.
  5. Cross-check the fine print. The homepage line reads “Free forever core · No credit card · Your data stays yours”, and The Promises section carries the written commitment that the free tier never shrinks.

That is the whole pricing surface. There is no third tier, no seat pricing, and no card taken before you have trained a session.

What do you get for nothing?

The generator

About two minutes of onboarding, equipment, schedule, experience level, injury areas, and you get a routine built from those answers. Unlimited routines on free, not one with an upgrade prompt bolted to the second.

The engine

You rate each set 1 to 10 on RPE after finishing it. That rating sets the load for your next session: a target increase such as +5 lb, or Deload -10% when your ratings run hot. The site’s own proof line is that it suggests a deload when your RPE spikes, before you stall. Full mechanism in how RPE auto-progression works.

The proof it worked

Automatic PR detection across 1RM, 5RM, volume and estimated 1RM, plus volume tracking, plus ninety days of history. Ninety days is a genuine ceiling, not a marketing ninety days, but it covers a training block, which is the window most people actually look back over.

The parts you notice only when they are missing

Offline use, so a basement gym with no signal is not a lost session. No credit card, so there is no trial clock. English and Spanish.

If the engine were behind the paywall, the free tier would be a logging app with our name on it. Then the whole “we prescribe, they record” argument would be marketing rather than a description.

What does $4.99 add?

  • Full history. The obvious one. If you want more than ninety days of lookback, this is the line you are paying for.
  • Personalized deloads. Worth being precise here: deload suggestion is part of the free auto-progression loop, since the engine already surfaces Deload -10% when your RPE spikes. Personalized deloads is listed as a separate PRO line on the pricing page, and I am not going to invent a distinction the page does not spell out. Read it there.
  • Advanced analytics. Depth on top of the volume and PR tracking that free already gives you.
  • Multiple routines. Also listed under PRO, while the free column says unlimited routines. Those two lines cannot both be doing much work, and rather than manufacture a difference between them I will point you at the current pricing page and let it speak.
  • First access to the AI coach. Covered below, because it needs its own section.

That is a short list on purpose. PRO is not a different app; it is more resolution on the same one.

Is the AI coach included?

No. The pricing page marks it as coming, which means it does not exist yet. PRO buys first access to it when it ships. It does not buy an AI coach today.

I am putting that in its own section with its own heading because it is the single easiest thing for a pricing page to be read wrong, and because a subscription bought for a feature that is not there is a refund and a bad review waiting to happen. If you are considering PRO, consider it for full history and analytics. If the AI coach is the reason, wait.

While we are drawing that line: no human coach reviews your training either. The engine does the job a coach does when they set your next session’s load, which is a real and checkable claim. It is not a person looking at your sets, and those two things do not get blurred here.

Buy PRO for the things you can open today. Anything with a coming label is a maybe, and you should price a maybe at zero.

Who should not pay for this?

Most readers, at least at first. That is not modesty, it is the correct order of operations.

If you have not run a full training block through the free tier, you do not yet know whether the engine’s decisions suit you. You cannot want full history before you have ninety days of it. You do not need advanced analytics on three weeks of data. Run it free, hit the ninety-day wall or do not, and let the wall make the argument.

The correct order is: run it free, hit a ceiling, then pay to remove the ceiling. Paying first is how subscriptions go unused.

The one group I would point at PRO early is people who already have years of training data elsewhere and know from experience that they review it, but even there, how Stronkr compares to the trackers you already use is worth reading first, because Stronkr cannot import that history and I am not going to imply otherwise.

The cheapest possible test is to install it, run one block on free, and see whether the 6am spreadsheet stays closed.

Is annual better than monthly?

Twelve months at $4.99 is $59.88. Annual is $39.99. The difference is $19.89, and that is the whole case, there is no extra feature attached to paying yearly, and I am not going to invent one.

The counter-argument is straightforward: annual is a bet that you will still be training with this in month nine. If you are new to the app, monthly is the honest choice, and the free tier is the more honest choice still. Prepaying a year on a habit you have not formed is a decision that flatters the seller.

Whatever you pick, it sits on top of a free tier that has a written commitment never to shrink, which is the argument in what the free tier never shrinks commits us to. If your reason for looking at PRO is a training constraint rather than an analytics one, a bad shoulder, a hotel gym, a return after time off, the answer is probably in the six adaptive programs, and all six of those are programs you can run without paying.

Start free at stronkr.com, run one training block, and only then open the pricing page. If PRO does not obviously earn $4.99 after that block, do not buy it.

Try auto-regulated training

Stronkr reads your RPE after every set and adjusts next session’s load for you. No spreadsheets, no guessing.

Frequently asked questions

What does the free tier include?

Unlimited routines, the routine generator, RPE auto-progression, 90 days of history, volume and PR tracking, and offline use. Zero dollars, no credit card. The engine that reads your RPE and sets the load for your next session is in that list, not behind the paywall.

What does PRO add for $4.99 a month?

The pricing page lists full history, personalized deloads, multiple routines, advanced analytics, and first access to the AI coach. It is $4.99 monthly or $39.99 annually. PRO adds depth to what the free tier already does rather than switching on the core progression loop.

Is the AI coach included in PRO?

No. The pricing page marks the AI coach as coming, which means it is not shipped. PRO buys first access to it when it exists, and nothing more than that today. Do not subscribe for the AI coach, because right now there is no AI coach to subscribe to.

Is the annual plan worth it?

It is $39.99 a year against $59.88 for twelve monthly payments, so annual saves you $19.89 if you stay a full year. That is the entire argument. Run the free tier for a training block first and let your own usage decide, rather than prepaying for a habit you have not formed.

Do I need PRO to get progressive overload?

No. RPE auto-progression sits in the free column. You rate each set 1 to 10, and that rating sets the load for your next session, including a deload suggestion when your ratings spike. That loop is the product, and it does not cost anything.
